Serge Stroobants

Serge Stroobants joined the Nordic Center for Conflict Transformation (NCCT) as a Member of the Board of Advisors, bringing decades of senior-level expertise in security, defense, and global risk analysis.

He previously served as Director for Europe and the MENA region at the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), where he contributed to strategic analysis and global peace and security assessments. A former Colonel in the Belgian Armed Forces, Serge combines operational military leadership with deep academic specialization in political sciences, international relations, security and defense policy, global risk analysis, foresight, and crisis management.

He holds advanced degrees from the Belgian Royal Military Academy, the Free University of Brussels, Université Jean Moulin Lyon III (France), the German General Staff College, and Vesalius College.

In addition to his strategic and advisory roles, Serge is a visiting professor to various universities teaching classes on terrorism, radicalization, international relations, international security and startegic leadership. He is widely regarded as a senior academic specialist on terrorism and radicalization in Belgium and across Europe, regularly contributing to international conferences and media debates.

He is a Senior Fellow at Irish College of KU Leuven, and a Senior Associate at the European Institute for Asian Studies. He is also the founder of BANTS Consulting, a strategic security consultancy firm.

Through his appointment to NCCT’s Board of Advisors, Serge further strengthens the Center’s work at the intersection of security policy, strategic foresight, and sustainable peacebuilding. His expertise enhances NCCT’s capacity to connect operational security experience with forward-looking conflict transformation strategies, reinforcing our commitment to advancing evidence-based, rights-grounded, and long-term approaches to peace and stability.
